Drug Arrest

May 30, 2001

Approximately one month ago investigators identified a subject (Carbellea) responsible for the distribution of large amounts of illegal narcotics in the Dalton/Whitfield County area. Intelligence information was obtained that this individual would distribute any amount and type of narcotics requested. Upon receiving the information a joint GBI/Sheriff’s Department covert operation was initiated targeting Carbellea.

During the course of the investigation undercover agents made contact with Carbellea and began buying illegal narcotics from him. Agents ordered and purchased illegal narcotics such as crack cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine from Carbellea on eight different occasions. On all the undercover purchases Carbellea’s pregnant female companion (Almora) was present, and actively participated in several of the transactions. On the last purchase (5-29-01) agents showed Carbellea a large sum of cash and ordered a pound of methamphetamine. When the pound of methamphetamine was delivered officers seized the narcotics and arrested Carbellea and Almora. A third individual, from Miami, Florida, was with the two when the ten thousand dollars worth of methamphetamine was seized. He was arrested and identified as Carlos Ledesma. Shortly after the arrest investigators searched the residence of Carbellea and Almora located at 1702 Crow Valley Road. Seized during arrest and search were two vehicles, approximately six thousand dollars cash, a new computer system, and other assorted items believed to have been purchased with proceeds from the sale of illegal narcotics.

Carlos Ledesma, age 45, of Miami, Florida, was arrested and charged with one count of Trafficking in Methamphetamine. William Ismael Carbellea age 30, and Belkis Almora age 28, both of 1702 Crow Valley Road were arrested and charged with; one count of distributing ½ pound of marijuana, two counts of distributing crack cocaine, three counts of distributing methamphetamine, and two counts of Trafficking in methamphetamine. All three suspects are being detained at the Correctional Center
