Squirrel Avenue

    On Saturday October 14, 2000 at approximately 3:27 p.m. the Whitfield County 911 Center received a report of a bicycle versus motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Squirrel Avenue and Tree Top Lane in Cohutta, Whitfield County, Georgia.  Deputies with the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office along with Fire and Emergency Medical personnel were dispatched to the incident location.  Deputies on the scene of the incident requested traffic accident reconstructionists with the Traffic Enforcement Unit respond to the location to initiate the case investigation.

    Investigators report that a juvenile male bicyclist, identified as Jason Walker, 12 years of age of Cohutta, was traveling east on Squirrel Avenue.  On reaching the intersection of Squirrel Avenue and Tree Top Lane, the bicyclist impacted the passenger side of a southbound 2000 Isuzu Rodeo.  The Isuzu was operated by Mr. Ervin Scoggins, 39, of a Granger, Georgia address.

    Mr. Walker was transported to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton where he later died as a result of internal injuries according to the Medical Examiner Dr. Floyd James.  No charges have been filed against the driver in the case at the present time.
