Interstate 75 Southbound
On October 31, 2000 at approximately 8:06 p.m. the Whitfield County 911 Center received a report of a motor vehicle collision on Interstate 75 southbound in the area of the 340 mile post. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the incident location.
On arrival, emergency personnel discovered a United Parcel Service vehicle down an embankment on the west side of Interstate 75. The van had initially impacted the guardrail then left the roadway where it impacted a tree. Accident Reconstructionists with the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office identified the driver as Mr. William E. Robinson, 70, of a Rossville, Georgia address.
The Whitfield County Medical Examiner, Dr. Floyd James, indicated that Mr. Robinson had suffered a heart attack while driving which resulted in his death. Mr. Robinson was on his way to Pleasantdale, Georgia where he was to deliver the UPS vehicle, pick up another truck and return it to Rossville, Georgia for repairs at Commercial Truck Painting. Mr. Robinson was an employee of Commercial Truck Painting of Rossville.
