Deputy Durwin Potts Badge 171
On December 20, 1996 Deputy Durwin Potts made the ultimate sacrifice by giving his life for his fellow Peace Officers and the Citizens of Whitfield County. Deputy Potts was killed in a motor vehicle collision while responding to the aid of another Peace Officer. He left behind a wife and children who cared for him dearly as well as a profession of people who had become to know him as a solid member of an honorable Brotherhood. Durwin served with pride as an Accident Reconstructionist assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Uniform Division. He had attained this high level of achievement through numerous training courses at the University of North Florida, Institute of Police Technology and Management. Durwin had also served with distinction as a member of the Special Operations Unit which handles special tactical situations within Whitfield County. Deputy Potts wore the badge number of 171 throughout his career with this agency. As a tribute to his service and sacrifice, his badge number has been retired from service and shall be eternally his and no others. We bid farewell to a good husband, friend and Deputy Sheriff. Our lives are the richer for knowing him. Our profession is less without him.
